Love ItLove It

DAY 2 of my quote challenge!

I love this idea and have really had a lot of fun, making and reading all the posts this has generated.

I was nominated by @cassyjanine to take part in a three day challenge where you post post three posts, one each day for three days. Post three of your favorite quotes and say a bit about them. Also, nominate three Virily users who would like to participate in the challenge as well for the first two days, and say a bit about each of them.

Here is my day two! I used a group of sunset pictures I got last week for the back round for my favorite quotes. I decided to feature a person each day for my quotes. Yesterday was Ralph Waldo Emerson, and today I will feature Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain.

His quote below reads: I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.

My take on the above.. The lessons in life are learned in school are mostly from books, but we learn best through experience driven by our own thoughts. We decide which lessons we want to remember and not all things can be taught from books.

Next is another Mark Twain quote paired with another one of my sunsets.

His  quote below reads: Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it!

I thought this one fit perfect with the world today and our president Trump. Remember most of the people do not share his views, and are embarrassed by his actions..

The last one is this: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade wind in your sails.. Explore. Dream. Discover says it all..

That’s it for my three quotes for today.

I would like to nominate @icybc at https://virily.com/icybc/

Icy has a quote on her profile page that I really love and thought she would be a great one to pick for this challenge. She is a great photographer that loves nature and flowers. Her posts are beautiful and really good, full of awesome photographs and information. She is super nice, go check out her nature photos!!

Next I have nominated @Gina23 at https://virily.com/gina23/

I have known her way before Virily and she is so nice and friendly. She is awesome at photographer having a real artists eye. She will take you on some awesome photography walks in our state of California! Her love of life, animals and nature really shows in her posts. We both just recently lost our Australian Shepherds…

Then we have @indexer Virily’s resident Librarian here.

https://virily.com/indexer/

All of his posts are researched, well written and packed full of information and history. He is a very smart and nice man as I learned one day by trying to argue with him over one of the facts on my post. I thought I was correct, and he politely let me know I was wrong and showed me information to back it up. This guy is awesome, go check his posts out. Indexer would you like to partake in this challenge?

  1. It is interesting to see how other people have said things that are very close to what Mark Twain said, without necessarily copying him – or maybe the quotes have been mis-attributed!

The school and education one, for example, I have seen as belonging to Winston Churchill – it is certainly believable given that he was a dismal failure at Harrow School but learned everything he needed to know from experience.

Plenty of patriotism quotes have poured cold water on the notion of “my country right or wrong”. Dr Johnson, for example, called it “The last refuge of the scoundrel”!

And I really like the quote – I can’t remember offhand who said it – “Nobody ever said on their deathbed that they wish they had spent more time at the office”!

    • Exactly Indexer. I was running into that problem with all of the old timers. I think Walden did a bunch of them as well, and different people did their own take on them.

  2. Kim, You are very kind! Yes – I think I could contribute, because I have a huge stock of quotations that anybody who follows me on Twitter will know about all too well! Whether I can join in immediately is another matter, because I have a very busy couple of days ahead of me that means I won’t be very visible on Virily until later in the week. But I won’t forget about it!
