Quite a long time ago in 1968 a group named The Foundations came out with a bouncy song called “Build Me Up Buttercup”. The song rose to number one on the Cash Box Top 100 and also made it on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and on the charts in the U.K. After selling over a million copies in the U.S. the song was certified Gold. The Foundations were a British soul band.
The song was included in the 1998 movie “There’s Something About Mary” and was used in the pilot of the TV show “Alias” as part of a marriage proposal. It has also been used in other variations like during the seventh-inning stretch at a Los Angeles Angels game with fans singing along.
It has also been done in an amazing presentation at a pop concert at Albright College in Pennsylvania.
