How To Replace A Toilet Seat – Easy As 1-2-3

Its really simple to replace a toilet seat, anyone can do this a man or a woman.

All you need is a new toilet seat, disposable gloves and a straight head screw driver.

First thing is to remove the new toilet seat from its wrapper and under the handle of the packaging is where you will find the new plastic screws. Set aside.

Put on the disposable gloves.

Using the flat tip screw driver flip up the little covers over the screws.

Next, Put the screw driver in the slot and with your free hand reach under the edge and find the tap, it had a handle so just hold onto that. With the screw driver turn the screw in a counter clockwise motion till the screw is a loose from the tap.

Repeat on the other side.

When the old seat is unscrewed, remove from toilet and clean the area where the holes are.

Remove disposable gloves and put in the trash.

Now lets put the new toilet seat on.

Line up the holes with the new toilet seat.

Put the screws through the holes and reach underneath the edge and apply the tap.

Hand tighten the screws into the taps.

Now just gently tighten the screws with the screw driver while holding the tap underneath. DO NOT over tighten or you`ll break it.

There ya go! That is all there is to changing a toilet seat.

I remember when I needed to change the toilet seats for a rental house and I had no idea how to do this, I would have to wait for a man that I had hired to help and what a waste of money! One day I just stood and watched, felt like a fool because it was so easy, plus I wasted money by hiring that type of work to be done.

Plus there are times, like now, that I am just needing to replace the old seat. After years of cleaning the paint enamel cracks and allows pee smell (men!) to get inside the seat and no matter what you do you cannot get rid of that smell.

Easy as 1-2-3 so why not change your own toilet seat?

  1. Um yes, it is if you have one of those seats… if you have a new-fangled oval shaped seat and you have to take the toilet out as the screws are underneath with no visible way of even seeing them let alone reaching them..It is not doable for the average Joe bloggs…
