Super Fly Guy (a book review)

‘Super Fly Guy’ written by Tedd Arnold and published by Scholastic is a picture story book set at Level 2 for developing readers.  This is an early chapter book that uses vivid, primary colors to make the story move as the main character, Fly Guy, shares his day.  Chapter One is a day at school and learning to read phonetically.  Chapter Two is how to get a favorite person back. Chapter Three is the special person does something special for Super Fly Guy.

This is a good beginning chapter book to improve vocabulary as Scholastic says it does.  I would use this book as a beginning book discussion. One question would be ‘What is your favorite subject?’  ‘In the cafeteria what is your favorite thing to eat?’  A teacher may even want to start teaching about basic nutrition and the food pyramid.  The teacher may even want to start lessons on the school community and the people who work there.
