Stepa Stepanovic

Apart from the family home in Kumodraz, where his brothers lived and dealt with agriculture, Duke did not own any other property. Refusing many gifts and privileges, after retirement he lived in the house of his father-Veselin Milanovic in Cacak. Contemporaries noted that Stepa Stepanovic has not suffered any privileges. He lived and worked under the slogan “Fatherland gives everything, and since it does not take anything.”

Then perhaps not surprising story that a few years ago told Ivana Lucic, a retired doctor from Belgrade and a great-grandson of Duke Stepanovic. When it finally came time to go to a long-deserved retirement, Stepa Stepanovic asked that his country pays homage to one thing – its an aging mare Villa. It was the horse on which the Duke participated in many battles and military campaigns and during Stepinog service was old, dilapidated and intended for culling. Stepa Stepanovic that does not want to let!

How to save the mare he asked her to be his gift on the occasion of his retirement and, with much wonder and rollover eye by younger colleagues, the Duke was expelled at the end of your own! Vila has for many years lived Stepe place on his property in Cacak. In the end, though totally blind mare outlived Duke. When Stepa died on 27 April 1929 just she pulled a car with a suitcase in which the body was Stepe Stepanovic to the grave, and so he escorted the funeral procession to rest.
