Old Non-Electronic Gasoline Price Sign (2018-09-27 12-03-56a)

It’s been years since I have seen one of these signs. I just tripped across this one when I stopped to take a photo of a mural. They’ve all been switched over to electronic signs which, I have to admit, are a lot more convenient for the people who have the change the prices as gas prices go up and down. With these you either had to climb a ladder or use a long pole to change the numbers. And with the electronic signs the numbers don’t go flying in the Windy City.

This sign was located on the northeast corner of Lawrence and Ashland Avenues in Chicago, Illinois In the Ravenswood neighborhood.

I used a Nikon Coolpix P7700 camera to take the photo and ACDSee Ultimate 2019 to do the editing. I corrected the perspective and cropped the image. Then I adjusted the lighting and added contrast and clarity.

    • I was born in 1952 and the changes I’ve seen are mind-boggling when you think about it. I used to think wabout what it was like for my grandmothers. They were born before the airplane was invented and they saw men land on the moon.

    • I’ve driven by this many times without seeing it. I only saw it this time because it was underneath a new mural that I stopped to photograph. Just dumb luck.
