Desert Rose
National Museum of Qatar, designed by the renowned French architect Jean Novel, is open to the public in Doha. The colossal museum of over 52,000 square meters is built from a series of discs which are interconnected at different angles, presenting themselves as desert rose, the unusual formation that occurs when a mineral salt crystallizes below the surface. Parts grandiose oval roof overlap directly over a central courtyard, while sandy concrete shell of the building with its appearance pays tribute to the nearby desert environment. In the museum there is a gallery in the form of rings which are 1.5 kilometers long even. The galleries are presented exhibits that visitors water through the history of Qatar, its art, music and poetry.
