I have been waiting all summer long for the butterflies to visit. Finally a black swallowtail came yesterday. He was fluttering around so fast it was a challenge to get a good photo. I had to sit for several minutes to get this one. These are one of my favorite butterflies. They are very large and such pretty markings. As my butterfly bush grows I hope to have many more to share.
The Eastern Swallowtail butterflies are what I see in the garden. They come in different colors. The yellow Tiger swallowtail and the Black Swallowtail are the two I see. Many swallowtails mimic the coloration and patterns of butterflies that are protected by a bad taste. Amazing the things nature has to do for survival.

You are right I love watching the pollen bees.
Bees are industrious where butterflies are frivolous. But they’re both welcome additions to any garden…
I enjoy both, the butterfly is a special significance for me.

You would remember if you had seen one. I can see them from my window and grab my camera!
Well I could have seen one at the butterfly pavilion I went to in Canada, but that was back in 2002 so I really don’t remember! But that’s great! I’ll keep an eye out for these in the future.
I enjoy visiting the pavilions, you never know what you will see.
I did too, the one time I was able to go to one. Would be cool to go again!
