By the 1980s the process of dumbing down was implemented and information limited.  People moved into complacency.  Many had their ‘own problems’ to take care of.  

That the U.S. invaded Iran, that Saddam Hussein was toppled, that ‘secret wars’ were raging meant nothing to most people.  

They were drugged, either by prescription or self medication, and focused on their personal pleasures. Whatever happened in the world,  If they were not personally effected, it was a shoulder shrug.

By the time the ’90s rolled around, the population was so successfully dumbed down, that few international events caught their attention.
