Tulip Poplar ~ Color Crazy

Kim Johnson has started a fun challenge. Feel free to join and click here for the guidelines Kim’s Color Crazy Challenge. This weeks colors are Green to Yellow.

I have chosen a few of my Tulip Poplar tree blooms. I had never seen one before the one in the backyard. And the blooms are shaped like a tulip. Very cool. A fun fact about this tree. It is actually classified in the Magnolia family, not the Poplar family. The Poplar tree was used by the pioneers to make houses, barns and canoes. And the birds love the seeds inside the bloom. These trees can grow to be 100 feet tall! And this tree is the state tree for Tennessee, as well as Indiana and Kentucky.

Before Blooming

You can see the tree gets its name Tulip Poplar Tree from the shape of the blooms. Like a tulip!
