Too Late – Akona – 7 (End)

Akona held the phone, feeling as if she’d tumbled into a mirror universe.  She was calling her mother, Sarah, to give her a chance to say she was sorry and Sarah asked ‘for what?’

“You abandoned me…”  Akona announced.

“Just as you abandoned Zoe.”

“I never…”

“Really?  That’s not how Zoe tells the story.”

“Don’t change the subject.”

“This is the subject.  It’s called Karma.   You spent your life hating me for letting my mother, the Great Mother, look after you.   Your daughter is now hating you for the same thing.  I call that Karma.”

“You are not going to apologise?”

“Apologise to Zoe.  See if that makes a difference.  But I’ll tell you this, I won’t ever apologise to you.”  And Sarah hung up.

Akona realised it was far too late for any kind of reconciliation with her mother; and her daughter..
