The Value of the Cold War – 6

EXERCISE

Every day students had P.E.  Every day.  Activity was important.  Kids were encourage to ride bikes, swim, skate, run, play sports.  Sitting and reading was to be balanced with activity.

There were few fat kids in those days.  Most kids were skinny and active.

Kids played outside, confronting life, learning to exercise judgement,  how to get along with each other, how to behave.

The idea of being a ‘couch potato’ was for old people, not kids.  For kids had the whole weight of the world on their shoulders.

They had to be strong, they had to active.

Television was limited until after the kid came from school, went out to play, ate their dinner, and did their homework.
