The Picasso; Memoriam; Miró’s Chicago – 365 Photos Challenge 28 – 30

In this writing I have shared pictures of The Picasso; a Memoriam, and Miró’s Chicago. All three pictures were taken with a Samsung Galaxy S8 and shared as part of the 365 Photos Challenge.  The first picture is The Picasso which is a well-known sculpture in Chicago, given to the city on August 14, 1967. Created by Pablo Picasso, it sits in Daley Plaza across from Brunswick Plaza facing the two other sculptures mentioned in this writing.

The second picture is a Memoriam in dedication to the six individuals who lost their lives due to a fire started in a supply room on the 12th floor of the Cook County Administration Building in Chicago Loop.

And lastly, Miró’s Chicago, which was originally called The Sun, the Moon and One Star. Miro’s Chicago was unveiled in Brunswick Plaza on April 21, 1981. Created by Joan Miro, Miro’s Chicago’s shape is reminiscent of the famous Minoan snake goddess figurine from Crete.

If you are visiting Chicago, and just so happen to be in the Chicago Loop, I recommend visiting all three, which sit in the same sector.

  1. Lovely photos! Well, I wish I could visit Chicago too and see those in person. But having a video would be very much appreciated. Can’t wait that you post a video of this place.

    • I would like to make videos to share next year along with my pictures. With the videos you will get a chance to hear my voice, and me explain more of the history of things.

  2. I moved to Chicago over 50 years ago, just before they unveiled the Picasso statue. I remember when it was unveiled everyone was baffled. No one could figure out what the heck it was. Speculation ran from a bird to a woman mooning the then Civic Center, now Daley Center showing his disdain for the city. To this day no one has a clue.

The Miro statue is just ridiculous, IMO. It looks like he designed it on an Etch-a-Sketch.

I wasn’t aware of the Memorium. I don’t get to the Loop very often any more.

    • Hehe, I could see the bird in it, but for some of reason I visualize a Baboon when I see the Picasso. I never knew the memoriam existed until pulling off on the side wall during a early morning bike ride. If I never would have got kn that side walk, I would have continued with my tunnel vision off to the Picasso.
