The Old Lady – 4

I learned Miss Ellis had been involved in demonstrations, from Civil Rights to Anti-War, and could describe them clearly.

Hearing her speak it was like taking a time machine, for she was there, fully there, not distracted.

That is what I remember the most, the fact she didn’t allow herself to be distracted.

When we walked to the supermarket, (going back to when I was a child)  she was conscious of the pot holes, the uneven curbs, the traffic, everything.  

She was a true example of ‘be here now’.
