The Apex Court convicts former interim director of CBI : sentenced to sit in a corner throughout the day

In the first case of its kind, the Supreme Court convicted former Interim Chief of CBI, Nageshwar Rao,  blaming  for contempt  of court and ordered to in a corner of the court all day.

He has also also been fined with one lakh rupees.Nageshwar Rao, however, apologized in this case a day earlier.In spite of this, the court convicted him and his legal advisor for contempt of court and ordered the punishment to sit in the corner of the Supreme court for a day.

Dismissing Rao’s unconditional apology, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said, “Contempt has happened and it will affect his (Rao’s) career.”

Earlier, expressing objection to Rao’s work, the court had said, “You are playing with the order of the Supreme Court. God protects you … Never forget, do not mess with the order of the court.”

The Man in charge of the Highest demiurge, Ranjan Gogoi urged ,”Contempt of court has occurred. And this will affect their (Rao’s) career.”

What is the matter of contempt

This case is related to the investigation of the case of Muzaffarpur girl child in Bihar.M Nageshwar Rao, while being the interim head of the CBI, transferred AK Sharma, an officer who investigated this case without permission from the apex court.

Subsequently, the Supreme Court had summoned him in  contempt of court on February 12 .Nageshwar Rao was made the interim director of CBI on October 23 last year when the then Director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana were discharged on leave after the ongoing differences between them.

After the Supreme Court judgment, on 8 and 9 January, Alok Verma returned to his post again. But then the government dismissed him, after which Nageshwar Rao took over as the Chief of the CBI again, and then he transferred the said officer.Since then, Nageshwar Rao remained  the CBI chief till the arrival of Rishi Kumar Shukla earlier this month.

The CBI had informed the Supreme Court in last week about this decision of transfer that Nageshwar Rao had taken the decision of transfer was solely.
