SongSaturday – Cherish

Okay, this isn’t Saturday, but it is a challenge from Kim, the #SongSaturdayChallenge. Truth is that it is rare for a day to go by that I don’t have something reminding me of a song. In this case, my wife just brought me in a birthday cake, though my birthday was two days ago. When she did it, I remembered the song Cherish by the Association. It was a hit song for them in 1966 and though I’m dating myself, I remember it well. I also enjoy their clean harmony. Granted, this is an older song, but I still like it.

The words go:

Cherish is the word I use to describeAll the feeling that I haveHiding here for you insideYou don’t know how many timesI’ve wished that I had told youYou don’t know how many timesI’ve wished that I could hold youYou don’t know how many timesI’ve wished that I couldMold you into someone who couldCherish me as much as I cherish youPerish is the word that more than appliesTo the hope in my heart each time I realizeThat I am not gonna be the oneTo share your dreamsThat I am not gonna be the oneTo share your schemesThat I am not gonna be the one to share whatSeems to be the life that you couldCherish as much as I do yoursOh, I’m beginning to think that man has never foundThe words that could make you want meThat have the right amount of lettersJust the right soundThat could make you hear, make you seeThat you are drivin’ me out of my mindOh, I could say I need youBut then you’d realizeThat I want youJust like a thousand other guysWho’d say they loved youLike all the rest of their liesWhen all they wantedWas to touch your face your handsAnd gaze into your eyesCherish is the word I use to describeAll the feelingThat I have hiding here for you insideYou don’t know how many timesI’ve wished that I had told youYou don’t know how many timesI’ve wished that I could hold youYou don’t know how many timesI’ve wished that I couldMold you into someone who couldCherish me as much as I cherish youAnd I doCherish youAnd I doCherish youCherish is the word

Does anyone else remember this song?

    • When the Association originally released this, David Cassidy would have been 16. 🙂 His rendition came 6 years after the Association released Cherish, in 1972, and it was his very first hit. He would have been 69 this year if he was still alive.
