Pop Art Style Color Crazy Challenge!

Hello everybody,

I am back to share some more photos in this week’s color crazy challenge (rainbow theme).

I call this style pop art, but I am not sure if that is the exactly right term for it.  I created these quite a few years back, but I remember exactly what I did.

I took an actual photograph that I shot with a camera and I took out the color and then colored it in Gimp as if it was a coloring page. I didn’t take out the color as if it was a black and white image exactly (that part is a bit harder to explain).

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the photos….I thought they’d be good for this challenge since they all are very colorful.

Colorful Sky

This is a photo of a store where I live called the Country Store.  I colored the background (sky) and the ground but left the building white.

What do you all think of this photo edit?

  1. I love it. I remember watching old science fiction movies and the land of the lost. They would use this technique for skies. I always wished ours could be like that. Great edit.

Down the Street

In this photo, the street/road is colored red, the houses are yellow and the sky is mulit-colored.

I thought the colors here were very unique for what the photo is.

What do you think?

  1. I think it would make a great book cover. Quite a bit more involved than my simple edits I did the other day. When you look at this the first thing you see is the red, then my eyes went to the trees, then the sky and back to the yellow. Fabulous.

Red Sky/Blue Road

This one is very simple....the sky is red and the ground is blue. In the middle there is a big tree that is more like a silhouette (like would be seen in one of my art designs).

Do you like this style?

  1. Very nice. I used to know this guy who was an art student. There is a name for images where the space is divided up like this. It’s a classic composition technique. Unfortunately I don’t remember what it’s called.

This is my great-grandmother's house.  I colored the sky a normal blue, the ground red, the sidewalk orange and left the house white.

I think this one is my favorite just because it is my grandma's house.  It's very special to me.

Which photo is your favorite?

  1. I had no idea there was a name for this kind of photo/art. I love them all, and that looks like it was so much fun to do. Fabulous and thanks so much for posting these!

    • I don’t know if that’s the actual name, but it’s the closest that I could think of! I’m glad you like them, and they were fun. I should do some new ones…I haven’t in years!
