Outhouse ~ Day 259

While out and about on my recent trip, I found another unique item to share with you. An outhouse. This was the entrance to the restroom. Pretty unique. It was made by a local man and you can see the details if you look really close. This was just another cool find and another reason to always keep your camera handy.

Funny thing is I remember always hearing my parents and grandparents talk about how these were the only bathrooms they had. All outdoor plumbing. We do not know how lucky we have to today with all of the modern day conveniences.

  1. That is pretty kewl, but we differ here. I do indeed know how lucky we are because when I was growing up we did not have indoor plumbing. We carried every drop of water from a spring in the hillside (all day on laundry day, back and forth) and our bathroom facilities were outdoors with spiders and the occasional rat, hot in the summer and ice cold in the winter. But as outhouses go, ours was pretty clean, ventilated and painted white.

    • Those were the days, right Ann? We had pumps no city water for awhile. I do remember that. My grandmother hand washed everything for many years. Good that your outhouse was well maintained.
