An Abuser needs to feed his ego. It may drain his pocket, destroy his business, end his relationship, that is secondary.
Reality is that Abusers have huge Inferiority Complexes. It doesn’t matter what they look like or possess, they KNOW they are inferior to you.
To demean you, to make you fail, to abuse you, makes them feel better.
The person who holds themselves superior to the abuser and never ever accommodates him, will be treated with respect.
The person who tries to be nice, to help, to understand, will be trampled.
