Rick inhabited the lower class in his country. He was a chauffeur to the rich and powerful, meaning he had to know how to behave.
When Gerta came into his life he never imagined that he would marry her and be taken to her 1st World Country.
During the first two years of the marriage, Gerta let him return to his country to see his friends and family. Rick had a lot of very good friends and a small family.
Gerta felt that being ‘off the leash’ might be dangerous, so would not pay his way home the third year.
She found a number of reasons why he couldn’t leave, and Rick, having nothing, being fully dependent of Gerta, couldn’t just jump on a plane.
Gerta was suspicious of certain of his friends, and needed to erase them from his life.
She monitored his email, his posts on Facebook. Only when she wasn’t there or sleeping could Rick use messenger to connect with old friends.
