Jake and Matt shared the master bedroom. Penny would stay in the small guest room. She phrased it as her being in and out, sometimes early, sometimes late, and didn’t want to ‘disturb’ her husband or son.
Maybe Jake believed she was kind and thoughtful. Penny couldn’t care less. She didn’t want to be with them more than she had to.
She had her in-laws to watch Matt, she had her Nanny. She could stay out as long as she wished. She could attend meetings, social gatherings, pretty much do as she wanted.
She spent as little time with her husband and child as possible.
It was like having a housemate, not a husband. Not a child.
