Actually, the power of Africa and Africans was well known at the time. If one glances at Shakespeare’s Othello one gets a taste of how Africans were seen in the 1500s.
The obliteration of the powerful African came with the rise of slavery in the Western Hemisphere.
To claim that the slaves were captured by white men and enslaved by white men would create the belief in the power of the white man.
Historical facts which revealed the power of Africans were bypassed.
Europeans did not care to know anything of history that did not directly enhance their blood line.
So the invasion and capture of Spain by Africa, it’s colonisation for 800 years is mentioned, slapped away, and Spain jumps to being the major power in the world in 1490.
Interesting, never read about this before.
It is left out of official European history. When one does a wider search, it is well known.
