After graduation from High School, Tom was drafted into the Army. He didn’t object, he had nothing to stay for.
His relationship with his parents was never good and became worse over the years.
They were happy to see him go.
When he returned he had a few skills in construction so got jobs. He lived in the same house as his folks, moving into a basement flat they had built ‘for him’.
He knew they had previously rented that flat, and were placing him there to keep him out of the living room.
It was fine with him.
