Whenever Claudette was upset, anyone who tried to embrace her was shoved away.
People who knew her would walk away as soon as she started the emotional performance. Some would ignore her crying and go off on their own conversation, so she could stand by herself.
When she was dating Ben, and something upset her, he went to hold her. She shoved him away. She didn’t realise that he took it seriously.
He left the venue. Left her there. He didn’t call her. He took her shove as; “Get away from me!” not; “I’m a drama queen performing.”
She never understood why he went away. As no one who knew her stayed in proximity when she got the news, they didn’t see what happened. And no one cared enough.
