We were at our posts when the woman entered, seeming one of many who enter our doors.
Imagine a hospital or hotel or supermarket or anywhere people flow in and out.
It was not until she came to the desk and spoke I appreciated she was a new member of staff, a high ranking member.
A new member of staff doesn’t wander in as a nameless, faceless part of a gestalt. A new member would stride with purpose, eyes seeking one who can direct them to their post or superior.
A staff member does not meander, unsure, then, put on their ‘official’ persona and become someone else as they stride to the desk.
That is what Arlene did. At least to my eyes.
And this is why my alert went off.
