Herbert let a week pass. He watched Jeff’s behaviour and began to realise that it was done to hurt him.
Herbert reflected on his life with Jeff. He examined actions, words, feelings, and it was inescapable, that Jeff had tried to provoke him, insult him, play the victim of his ‘prejudice’.

Having met Steve, Herbert saw the difference, and came to conclusions.
He called Judy.
Then he told Jeff he was flying to Atlanta on business.
Sure, he lied, but he could. Truth had no place in this so-called relationship with Jeff.
Herbert flew to California. He met with Judy and asked her to marry him. The wedding would be on a cruise to Hawaii.
Judy called Steve who came instantly, and was so happy for his mother.
Now, with everything set, Herbert would go home and tell Jeff.
