Cutting Cords – Herbert – 3

Herbert’s business was doing well.  He was rich.  His life with Amanda was easy.  The only wart was Jeffrey.

Then,  when Jeffrey was eight, Amanda took sick.  She went into the hospital and within six months was dead.

Herbert tried to be everything to Jeffrey.   But nothing pleased him.

Jeffrey did poorly at school.   Private tutors were hired.   Jeffrey wasn’t interested in school.

Herbert thought that maybe he’d like sports, but he didn’t like that either.  

Herbert sent him to a child psychologist, who told him that Jeffrey blamed him for his mother’s death.

It was hard for Herbert to accept it, for he and Amanda had been happy, there were no arguments, there was nothing Herbert had done which in anyway he could recall as making him liable for his wife’s death.
