Can't Make it Right – 18

Steven became so good at self sabotage he didn’t need any enemies.

Although he was active at the religious institution, holding classes, sometimes taking the leadership, he reacted to compliments as if they were insults.

People who had known him all his life tried to avoid him.

Maggie, who was also  active in the religion, tried to play Miss Wonderful so that everyone would like her.

Everyone did, until they got too close, then, she became someone to avoid.

Mary tried to be supportive of her children but they had this attitude that she had always put David before them and they could never measure up.

This was not true.

Mary loved her children the same, never gave David special attention or treatment.

Unlike Eric.

Eric had always put David first and continued to mourn him.  Continued to see Steven as an embarrassment and Maggie as second rate.
