Butterfly Bush ~ Color Crazy

Kim Johnson has started a Color Crazy Challenge. It is tons of fun. To see the simple rules you can click here Kim’s Color Crazy Challenge Week 5 Blue and Purple. Anyone is welcome to join.

This week’s challenge is Blue and Purple. I am sharing my purple butterfly bush from my spring garden, along with a white butterfly visitor.

The Butterfly Bush (Buddleia davidii) is a beautiful, fast-growing, shrub with masses of blossoms that bloom from summer to fall. They come in many different varieties and colors. This one is a favorite of mine. The purple is beautiful especially when the orange and yellow butterflies visit. I started this one in my deck garden. I then transplanted it into Dustin’s garden. It is doing great. I plan to get more as they make really nice garden shrubs. I love these shrubs also because they are low maintenance, only requiring dead-heading and annual pruning in later winter to encourage flowers and a compact shape. I would recommend this shrub to anyone wanting to attract butterflies. Water and sunshine is all it needs.
