Barry's Diaries – 7

Packing what they wanted to keep in a U-haul,  Barry’s folks sold or gave away what they didn’t.

Then, as if it held some religious significance, spent their last night burning what they didn’t want to keep in the trash can which they moved into the yard.

Barry had tossed in his old notebooks and his diaries. He was  not going to be Nobarry in his new town.   He was going to be special.

He was going to swagger and smile, be cool and confident. The pages of whines and gaffes, humiliations and sorrows  which filled his diaries  would not come with him.

Burning the diaries was removing the aspects of himself Barry didn’t want to take to the new city.
