Barry's Diaries – 38

“My third week of school, tried out for basketball and was put on the team, of course, provisionally, on both sides.   They might not be sure of my ability and I am not sure if I want to devote too much of my time to the game.”

Because  he had developed a kind of ease with himself, Barry had visited the cafeteria.

“Arrived in the lunch room twenty five minutes later than start, grabbed a small meal, took a corner seat.  Finished in about ten minutes, left.  Didn’t speak to anyone.   Coming late is not a bad choice.”

Barry realised he had become conscious of self, not self conscious.   That he, as an actor in a play, was aware of his position, his presentation, his responses.

Never before had he been so self aware.
