After Abuse – 4

Begin calmly.

As you become stressed or nervous, instantly start to look around the room and name what you see; for example, Door, table, window, bed, door table window, bed; again and again looking at the objects until you are calm.

Escaping Abuse leaves you with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and gaining control of your emotions is vital.

Recalling the Abuse is traumatic, but it is necessary so that you never enter another relationship even near that first.

It takes time.

If you were in an abusive relationship for five years, it takes five years to get out.  If you have been in such a relationship longer than five years will take a month for each year over five.

The most traumatic time will be the first two years after you left the relationship.

It gets easier after that.
