Being born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia, growing up, all of my relations had a hand water pump. My great-grandparents had one close to our fields, directly across from the old plantation house’s kitchen window. Aunt Annie had hers in her porch, leading into the kitchen. We had one on our second farm, just outside the kitchen door. It seemed they were everywhere. Even my friends who lived in town had these growing up.
The hand water pump pictured here is in our backyard by the barn. We haven’t tried to actually use it, but it would be interesting if it worked! Have you ever used a hand water pump?

Wouldn’t it be great if we could all get back to living such simple lives. It will make us question today’s “Necessities”.
In some ways, yes. In other ways, no. If we’re talking post toilet paper and feminine product invention, then yes! Before that, nope! Having lived the Amish life for three weeks of my life, I could totally do that and enjoy it. I love gardening, enjoy sewing, chickens and goats, handwritten letters, homemade cards…
My folks’ house have one and it is working altho only the laundrywoman ever use it as the pump is connected to an electric one that draws water for the house

While there aren’t too many old ones around anymore, I think they are still great to have in the case of loss of electricity. Do you have city or well water in your home, Branka?
