365 day photo challenge: Day 43 A Day at the Zoo

Today I got a chance to visit the Dallas Zoo. My intent was to photograph portraits and for the first thirty minutes I was able to get to know the lowland gorillas. I talked to a zookeeper about their individual personalities and watched as they were fed.

It was a perfect cool day with lots of light. I wanted just a hint of light on the faces and enjoyed capturing their personalities. What’s to follow are several images of the big cats and the primates.

I must admit being at the zoo brings back some memories I really miss. My son and I used to go to zoos on all of our visits to different states. I miss his company as he gets older and starts having his own life.
