We had a thunderstorm yesterday afternoon (Raven does not like the sound of thunder). She was panicking in the basement (in my office). This morning, relaxing at the top of the stairs waiting for me to go down to my office. The other things Raven loves to do is to sit in the chair in my office and chillax! Dylan slides under the desk I have my computer on. Tamsyn, once the thunder starts, now slides under the corner desk in my office (Raven won’t fit). It is funny how they have all found a way to soothe the fear of thunderstorms. I ask Alexa to play relaxing music (mostly classical), and we all ride out the storm together. Dogs remain young children in the reality of object permanence. You can have dogs that couldn’t care less about thunderstorms. Then you get a dog that is terrified of thunder. Francine, never feared thunder her entire life. Gwen was scared of thunder. Raven and Dylan are both scared of thunder in every form. It is the human’s job to reassure, and help them make it through!
It is part of the bargain, they project and love without question. We have to do the same for our dogs!

My Nora was afraid of the thunder and always sat next to me on the bed.
There is a magic in that bond. Nora was comforted by you!
Nora died four years ago. I’m missing.
How awesome Doc. Your dogs need you as much as you need them. My cats love the rain but not thunder or lightning, they came running in from the screen room yesterday.
4th of July is also tough (fireworks). We had the same thing yesterday!
I know how they feel, I always have a difficult time, but it is over for one more year. Or at least until New Year’s..
