365 Day Challenge: Day 23 Cedar Ridge Preserve

I visited a park today, with the thought that I had never visited before but I was wrong. It was previously called the Dallas Nature Center and I had visited when my oldest son was only eleven years old.

I remember my mom and stepdad went with us and she had some trouble with the hills and steep trails, this time it was me huffing and puffing. I work out and am in pretty decent shape but I still need to work more on cardio which I was reminded of today.

It’s a park that is just remote enough to truly enjoy nature and yet there were plenty of people on the trail that it felt very safe. The trails are well marked and easy to maneuver. I walked the entire cedar break trail which is two miles, the scenery was just wonderful.

I remember when I first came to Texas. I lived in Desoto. It was dry and we had to go to Grand Prairie to buy alcohol. The park is situated in the middle of the hills and valleys characteristic of Grand Prairie and Cedar Hill surrounded by Highway 20 and the Great Southwest Parkway. The town of Cedar Hill that has grown so much I barely recognized it.

In the distance is Joe Poole Lake, a place where my wife, son and I would fish for huge carp. I used to photograph in the Lake Pointe area, the hills of chalk rock and ancient cedars are now luxury homes. It’s where I learned to photograph sunsets from a overlook that is now someones’ home.

It’s amazing how things change. I plan on visiting more and working on my cardio. It’s a great park and just filled my need to get away. It was a wonderful day.

  1. Hiking a trail is not quite my favorite thing to do altho I happily go along when it is included in our itinerary. I am more of a beach (preferably no crowd) person than a forest pixie. Still, it is a good way to be near the nature which we badly need to do more often.

  2. What beautiful photos and a walk down memory lane. Thank you for taking us all along.
You are right, things change. Nothing ever stays the same. But our memories are forever.

  3. Come now and enjoy the fun in this challenge but be sure to read the do’s and don’t’s here https://virily.com/art/365-photo-contest-day-1/. You have been nominated-mention me in the first post. I will add you on my next post saying that I had nominated you and I will link to your first post. Please send me a message when you make your first post and I will send my next day with a link to your first post. Good luck-it’s amazing how much you have to force yourself after the twentieth day-it’s great discipline.
