Room For Love (Contemporary Christmas Music)

While many of today’s popular Christmas carols are of religious origin, the earliest carols, “were pagan songs, sung at the Winter Solstice celebrations.” Historians believe that church officials scheduled Christmas to coincide with the Winter Solstice celebrations in hopes that it would be more widely accepted. Pope Julius 1 is credited with assigning December 25th as the day to celebrate the Nativity back in the 4th century. However, it wasn’t until the 14th century that “carols” became popular in religious circles.

My Christmas carol , “Room for Love”, uses Luke Chapter 2, Verse 7 for inspiration. “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”

Mary and Joseph arrived late at night, but few have compassion for them and their plight. No room at the inn, no room anywhere, but God made room in his heart then and there. The old barn was crowded with farm animals, yet fit for the King who would soon save us all. No room at the inn, no room anywhere, but God made room for us all then and there. In these surroundings, the shelter they sought. Soon more would come to see what love had brought. No room at the inn, no room anywhere, but God made room for the world then and there.
