Picnic at Mudsock Meadow (A Book Review)

Patricia Polacco wrote a story fit for all of Halloween.  A story about a boy who tries his best and deals with various enemies we all deal with in our lives. This is a story that can be used in various classroom activities for in the story the town organizes a church picnic with various booths.  This could lead to a lesson on organizing parties, plays, discussions , etc. depending on primary grade level. In a classroom the students could decorate the room with what was mentioned in the story from pumpkins, skeletons and ghosts.

Another organization lesson could be what needs to be done to put on a play for the other classes. The teacher and students could even create a Halloween mural to display. Another lesson could be a science lesson that could be about ‘What constitutes ‘swamp gas’? A Social studies lesson could be about communities and social living and making new friends.
