Noruz Festival 2019, Part 1

Sunday, 3.24.19, 1 pm to 6 pm

Noruz symbolizes new beginnings, springtime, rebirth, and end of winter. The traditional ceremonial table has pastries and germinate seeds, which represent 7 items, and these 7 items stand for life, health, love, prosperity, happiness, patience, and peace.

At 1:00 pm, the USA national anthem was performed before the Iranian national anthem. Then, some Irvine board members were introduced, before the host explained the meaning of Noruz. But I was walking around, doing videos, and checking out different booths. I also played in a backgammon tournament.

By 2 pm, DJ Julius played some dance music and electronic music. A Zoroastrian Dance Group performed. (I remember reading somewhere that Freddie Mercury’s family were Zoroastrian).

There were many dance performances, which involved kids and adults. Iranian Folkloric Dance, as well as many young girls, dressed in traditional costume, performed on stage. Ava Dance Studio students performed.

There was also a dramatic skit about Cyrus the King of Persia. He appeared to be some kind of royal, or at least that is how he was portrayed.

Some Irvine VIPs were introduced, such as City Councils, Mayor of Irvine, and other officials, but I wasn’t really watching.

There were also music performances and singing.
