Ivanjdan is a national holiday

Ivanjdan (Ivandan, Svitnjak, Jovan Igritelj) is a Christian holiday marking the birth of St. Jovana Baptiste, July 7, according to the Gregorian, or June 24, according to the Julian calendar. The great holiday is also celebrated as a day of carnivals and gatherings. In our nation today, the idolism is highly appreciated and it is often said: “God in heaven, the godfather of the earth.”

This is a great national holiday. On the eve of the holiday, there are fire in front of houses and gates. It is a custom in which children participate as well. The girls knelt wreaths of ivy flowers, and they put on their houses, buildings and gates. In the morning, on a holiday, children are wandering through the ivani wreath, in order to grow, grow faster and be healthier. The grassland is read and used as medicinal herbs.
