One of my all-time favorite Christmas songs is “Feliz Navidad” which has just the kind of catchy melody that always makes me want to dance. The song was written in 1970 by Puerto Rican singer and songwriter Jose Feliciano. It began with a Spanish chorus meaning Merry Christmas. It soon became a classic Christmas song in the U.S. and all across the globe especially in Spain and Spanish-speaking countries. The song placed on the list of all-time best selling Christmas singles. Since then it has gone through many cover versions with one of my favorite by Bony M.
There is a great Christmas movie that I think everyone should see “Surviving Christmas” with Ben Affleck playing a wealthy executive named Drew who becomes nostalgic about his childhood home. He decides to rent the family living there to let him spend Christmas with them as if he were a part of the family. There are many delightful situations and laughs in the process with a great cast including Catherine O’Hara as Christine and Tom Valcom her husband played by James Gandolfini, and their daughter Alicia portrayed by Christina Applegate. The reason I mention this movie here is that it includes a wonderful Christmas decorating scene with the song “Feliz Navidad”.
