Christmas Carols

What is your favorite Christmas Carol? The earliest Christmas Carols evolved from songs celebrating the Winter Solstice. At the time, the church felt that they could help spread the Christian religion better by utilizing tunes familiar to the masses. However, since many of these early carols were in Latin, this limited their popularity. It wasn’t until 1223, when St. Francis of Assisi created his “Native Plays”, that the carol musical form utilized native languages that the masses could understand. However, it wasn’t until the late 1800s that door-to-door “Carolling” as we know it became popular. Below, I’ve provided links to a handful of traditional Christmas Carols. Feel free to add your favorite.
