Elsie Shepherd who recently turned 100 years of age in her nursing home in Regina, Saskatchewan had this wish for the persons that run the home to have a few members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or they are nicknamed “The Mounties” to come celebrate her birthday.
The local precinct sent four members of the Mounties to handle this detail which is a refreshing detail to handle instead of battling crime on that day since it is not everyday that a citizen who turns 100 years of age makes a request to attend a birthday party.
To make Elsie’s birthday event even sweeter than sugar, was when Elsie wanted to dance with one of the four Mounties who attended her birthday party.
Enter Officer Daryl Chernoff who accepted the birthday wish from Elsie. After Officer Chernoff finished his dance with Elsie, she was so happy that a police officer took time out from his duties of service and protection of his community to dance with a senior citizen who has hit the century mark in terms of counting candles on her birthday cake.
In Elsie’s case, I am sure the reason she has lived such a long time is to enjoy the blessing of everyday living and carry the though of “Don’t worry, be happy.”
I need to have a great sense of humor since I have a lot of gasoline left in the tank of life at this time.
What a great story, it is heartwarming to read about how others give their time like this.
It is nice to see a police officer from Canada grant the wish of the lady who turned 100 years of age to dance with her on her birthday. It is priceless.
Yes indeed and we could all do this, it only takes a few minutes of our time.
That is so true since doing good deeds go a long way to be happy.
even when they’re off duty, they’re still on duty…
Thank you for correcting me.
that wasn’t a correction, more of a witty observation…
My error. I like your witty comments by the way.
I am glad to hear that, I don’t want anyone to take them the wrong way
Much respect for such an old lady dear friend
The police get a bad rap from the media. It is my pleasure to show people that are great police officers in the force today.
