Spring 2019: The Best Budget-Friendly Activities For You And The Kids

Spring is on its way but as the weather get’s warmer, our kids can get fidgety. Weekends spent indoors playing with toys or video games isn’t quite enough to keep them entertained as the sun starts to shine, so it’s up to us as parents to come up with something that just might keep them entertained for more than a few minutes. However, when you’re on the brink of searching for a payday loan provider when money is tight during a month, things aren’t nearly as simple as heading out to the cinema or for a family meal. When you don’t have the money to spend on theme parks, days out or anything else, you need to get a little more creative – here, we’ve got a few budget-friendly activities to get you started.

Visit A Farm

What better place to visit during springtime than a local farm? While not every farm will be free or cheap to enter, there is usually a working farm willing to let visitors walk around or who only charge for certain services. A petting zoo, for example, might only charge for food you can buy to feed the animals. If you do your research, you could very well find a farm that’s free to enter and that has an abundance of baby animals for you and the kid’s to ‘aww’ at.

Go Bowling

While bowling isn’t always a budget-friendly activity, most alleys tend to do deals for families or at different times of the day. If you have kids who are typically early risers, Early Bird deals are a common way to get an hour or two or bowling for half price or less. If you go earlier, you also won’t have to compete with other families and their children, giving you the pick of the lanes and a much more stress-free experience.

Get Crafty

If your budget doesn’t stretch to bowling or you can’t find a farm nearby, you could always break out the craft materials. If you don’t already have a stash stored somewhere around the house, you can take a look online to find guides and instructions for crafts using household objects. You can also pick up materials from discount stores and supermarkets fairly cheap, and the £1/$1 stores always have an array that you can pick from. If you’re not sure where to start, give your kids a budget and let them pick their own materials – you never know where their imagination might take them.

Have A Movie Night

You don’t need to spend a fortune to see a movie – why not set up your very own cinema at home? Pick up a few snacks or make your own with the kids throughout the day, then set up a pillow pile or blanket fort that’ll fit you all in. You can get cosy and enjoy more than one movie if you so choose – you could even get away with not spending a penny!

Break Out The Board Games

While you may think your kids aren’t the type to enjoy any kind of board game, some of the old classics might actually surprise you. If you show an interest in the game, your children are more likely to pay attention too and you could end up with a fun-filled games night. Games like Sorry!, Jenga, Guess Who, Kerplunk and ‘junior’ versions of games like Cluedo, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble can all be great ways to not only fill a few hours but get your kids’ minds whirring all at the same time.

Become Scientists

Whether you opt for a full kit (you can pick these up relatively cheaply from discount stores) or just a book of science experience for kids, you can have hours of ‘educational’ fun with the kids. Whether it’s a baking soda volcano, making your own lava lamp, putting together ‘potions’ or, of course, making your very own slime, there’s plenty you can do to learn more about how certain materials work, while giving you and the kids entertainment for a good few hours in the meantime.

While this is by no means an exhaustive list, these are just a few options for you to be getting on with as spring comes into play. Whether you save up to take the kids bowling or decide to forgo spending completely with a movie night at home, you can rest assured there’ll always be something to keep your children entertained. What will you start with?
