Why I Don’t Like BitLanders

Some people love BitLanders, and some people do make money there. I don’t like it, and here’s why.

It is too cartooney. It looks like it’s a children’s website, not a place for adults to write and read articles. Writing to me isn’t a game, and I don’t like to feel like I’m playing a game online when I go there.

It is too confusing. There are no obvious “rules” on how to write articles there. You have to basically figure it out for yourself, through trial and error. Basically you need to read a lot of articles by the top writers, and try to emulate them, in terms of formatting etc. I don’t mean copy them of course. But they have weird “guidelines” such as having to bold certain words, seemingly at random. The main thing is though, is that I simply don’t know what they want, because it isn’t clear. And you have to figure out everything on your own, which is a pain.

They are very rude as well. The moderator will leave you very nasty comments if she doesn’t like your work. There is no constructive criticism, just rudeness, and I was very put off. I don’t need that in my life.

Finally, the word count is too high for me. They expect a thousand words or more for an article, and that is usually too much for me. I find seven or eight hundred is about my limit for an article.

There are some good things about BitLanders of course. They are a legit site, and people do make money there. It just isn’t for me.

  1. Things have changed a lot from the time of this post.

One thing remains true though and that’s the fact that the site is very technical and it could take a while to get the hang of it.

It is a great place to earn some cool money though, especially if you are on the leaderboard.

  2. Wow! Thanks for the input about the site; I will stay away from that one. Sounds like Info Barrel, but without the rudeness. Info Barrel has great features, but no ‘How to use list’ which is a headache when trying to put together an article.
