What’s in Age-Defying Products?

It’s common for skin to sag, wrinkle and thin with age — it’s a part of life. That said, the better you treat your skin, the slower it will age.

There is no way to escape ageing — but there is, however, a way to maintain your skin and slow its ageing process: anti-ageing creams.

There has been much debate over the effectiveness of these creams, but there is no denying the healing, restorative and hydrating properties in these products. While there are creams with a hefty price tag that may not quite deliver on their promises, there are brands with reputable formulas that can, in fact, make a difference.

The right anti-ageing creams like SK-II skincare products can revolutionize your look with their nourishing properties. These properties lock in moisture, hydrate your skin, and produce collagen to restore firmness.

These are the ingredients in skin creams that make it possible to provide you with that refreshed appearance you’ve been striving for:

Peptides:

Anti-ageing creams contain peptides; small proteins that stimulate new skin cells and help existing ones heal.

Peptide proteins boost collagen production, hydrate your skin, and help with skin regeneration as a whole, according to Refinery 29.

SK-II products, for example, use the central ingredient of Pitera — a yeast extract that’s known to be a source of peptides among other proteins.

Hydroxy Acids:

These acids — glycolic, citric and lactic acids — each serves a different purpose. For example, lactic acid removes dead skin cells and brightens skin, while glycolic acid smooths skin by reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

These ingredients are exfoliating, which help you to remove the dead cells that cause your face to look dull and grow new, revitalized skin cells.

Vitamins:

You may not know this, but vitamins C, D, E and K are powerful anti-ageing agents. These vitamins are common components of these creams as, according to Healthline, they are able to treat dark spots, redness, wrinkles, and dryness.

Vitamin C: This vitamin helps to produce collagen — which is what keeps skin tight and firm. It also helps to heal any damaged or aged skin, including wrinkles.

Vitamin E: This vitamin is an antioxidant that helps to treat skin inflammation.

Vitamin K: This vitamin boasts properties that help to treat dark spots, undereye circles, scars and stretch marks — all of which can contribute to an aged appearance, but when treated, can make all the difference.

Retinol:

Retinol is a natural form of Vitamin A that has long been used in anti-ageing creams. This is because this particular ingredient increases the elasticity and thickness of your skin to reduce any wrinkles that may have formed as a result of ageing.

Glycerin:

Glycerin is an emollient, which means it attracts water. This is a powerful ingredient that helps to moisturize and smooth skin and provide that youthful look. Allure explains that glycerin is an effective ingredient as it helps keep your skin moisturized and protect it from getting irritated.

There is no denying the power of these natural ingredients that have long been used to take care of your skin. The right anti-ageing cream will be packed with these nourishing properties that have a history of nurturing skin.

  1. Vitamin C is my regular intake. Emu oil in cream for my face. Refuse unnecessary stress over things. Cultivate happy disposition. I’ve heard about glycerin. But isn’t it sticky to feel on the face?

    Thanks for this timely post.

  2. I am not much into external application but believe in hydrating myself by drinking water and my doctor has prescribed Evion 400 which is an anti-oxidant. Aloe vera is yet another gel that is supposed to take care of ageing I was a distributor of Forever Living Products and did consume bottles of it I now have plants growing in my garden.
