Use it or Lose it

I spent two days walking around the Comic Con, up and down stairs, long walks to and from the car. It fet good to get out of the house and walk around. A few months ago I would have been winded just walking the two blocks to the store.

I spent several years being a recluse and very sedentary, leaving the house only to go to the store or appointments. And they always wore me out. I gained more weight than I want to mention, and I can’t just blame it on my meds. I was outright lazy.

But I had had enough, and I wanted to get in shape. Mainly because I felt so bad and physically tired all the time. I also have the desire to get back into taekwando. But I have a long way to go before I will be in good enough shape for that. I suspect I won’t be ready for at least a year. It is slow going for me, but I am seeing improvement in how much exercise I am able to do, and how I feel generally.

At the beginning, my doctor said to take it slow (due to heart palpitations, he didn’t want  me to over do it). He said to start walking for four or five minutes at a time, several times a day. So my boyfriend bought me a used treadmill for cheap, which isn’t as good as walking outside, but it is better than nothing. And it will be great for the rainy season. So I’ve just been upping my time and speed as I go. And adding in other exercises and weights slowly as I begin to feel more energetic and stronger.

I am beginning to feel more energetic, and healthier. Next life improvement to work on is my diet.
