Training for Detroit Marathon

After not being in the mood to run the Des Plaines River Trail – Fullerton Woods or drive out to the Lakefront Path I settled for a run from my neighborhood headed towards the Lakefront Path. Due to work schedule I had to make some changes to my training schedule. The situation I run into on the weekends typically is not being in the mood for longer runs on Saturdays, yet in the mood for a bike ride instead. That had to change! In order to get settled in to this run mentally I took it slow in order to let my muscles warm up and the endorphins kick in which it took only a few miles.

Beautiful parts to this run were crossing into the downtown area (Loop) from the  Near West Side of the city and upon entering the Lakefront Path via E Randolph St. From that point I debated on making my turnaround point either DuSable Harbor, Navy Pier, or Ohio Street Beach. After being enroute to them all I made the decision to make Ohio Street Beach my turnaround in order to gain more mileage before turnaround. At that point, I was in well enjoyment of my run plus feeding off of the energy from all on the Lakefront Path getting their training in for whatever reasons.

After hitting my turnaround point, and headed back into the Loop, I noticed that my Garmin 910xt and Strava application were out of sync, which is due to my Garmin pausing as I took my breaks at the stop lights & signs.

I felt very good once I got settled into this run with the energy to go further which I plan to do next in the upcoming weeks. The focus this upcoming week will be speed work and cross training on my bike or Elliptical at the gym. Next weekend I have a 5k (3.1 miles) and the following week I have a half marathon (13.1 miles). I’am looking forward to both because it will gauge the work I have done thus far with Detroit Marathon right around the corner.

“There is something magical about running; after a certain distance, it transcends the body. Then a bit further, it transcends the mind. A bit further yet, and what you have before you, laid bare, is the soul.”Kristin Armstrong

    • I cannot wait myself. And I especially cannot wait to share some of the pictures of the places that I visit within the city. I booked a rental car so there is no excuse for not been able to share pictures ; )

I am happy that I stopped procrastinating and went on and got my hotel, car, and flight.

    • Ouch! I picked up the interest in my early twenties, and have been doing it since. Thinking about making this one (Detroit Marathon) or Indianapolis Marathon my last one.
