The benefits of sunflower seeds

When it comes to snacking inbetween meals, I usually opt for biscuits or chocolate.  We all know this is bad.  I’ve decided to try and cut back on rubbish food and eat more healthily, including more fruit and vegetables.  When I was in a corner shop the other day I decided to pick up a packet of sunflower seeds.  It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten these.

The sunflower seed is a fruit which comes from the plant of the sunflower.  These are usually eaten as a snack.  The outer shell of the seed, which is salted, is cracked open with your teeth.  Then the little seed inside can be eaten.  These are very good for you and have lots of nutrients and vitamins in them.  Here is a list of the benefits you can get from these seeds:-

  • They are high in protein, iron and fibre.
  • They are gluten free.
  • They contain vitamins, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium.
  • They are good for your nerves, muscles, heart and blood vessels.

These can be fiddly to eat though trying to get the inner seed out.  But, I really like these.  I also find them a bit of a messy snack as I am often dropping bits on the floor!  But, the reason I have turned to eating these is, as a say, to try and cut back on the amount of rubbish I’m eating.  These seeds have healthy fat contain in them.  Although you still have to watch how many of these you eat, these are certainly a lot more beneficial for you.
