Preparing For Uncertainty: All You Need To Know About Masks

With the ongoing pandemic, coronavirus, a respiratory virus spread through droplets from an infected person when they cough or sneezes, wearing masks has been treated as a symbol of social responsibility within no time. They are now treated as one of the comprehensive measures to suppress the spread of the coronavirus. And with medical practitioners recommending that everyone wear a mask when in public, masks have become a major part of people’s daily lives even though they don’t provide sufficient protection against COVID-19 and other viruses. Masks come in different types; some protect people from contracting viruses while others prevent onward transmission. Below is all you need to know about masks to help you stay safe amidst the pandemic:

  1. Reasons To Wear A Mask

Most respiratory viruses spread primarily from person to person through respiratory droplets from an infected person when they cough, sneeze or talk. This spread through the nose or mouth can be limited by facemasks as it blocks the droplets. In addition, masks such as Surgical Mask help us protect other people around us as they will reduce the risk of spread since many people may feel fine, yet they are already infected and contagious.

  1. Wearing And Take Off Masks

Before putting on a mask, you need to first wash your hand with soap and running water for about 30 seconds. Then without touching the fabric part of the mask, hold the ear loops and tie them to ensure it will fit you without hanging loose, and carefully put it on. Your mask must cover the bridge of your nose down to your chin and more toward your ears. You should also ensure to hold the ear loops when removing them and make sure that the folded side is facing down when using a pleated mask.

  1. The Risk Of Wearing A Mask

Wearing a mask may not mean no germ will land on your body but will block the main entry point to the body. This means that these viruses will still be on your body, especially your face, and when you touch your face regularly, you are still at significant risk of danger. Even though they make us feel safe, people neglect all other safety protocols such as social distancing and washing hands with soap and clean running water. Always remember that mask alone cannot protect you from contracting a virus.

  1. When To Wear A Mask

Health experts recommend wearing a mask at all-time once you are in public. Not wearing one during an outdoor exercise may seem okay, but it’s good to be on the safer side. Always wear a face mask if you are unable to keep physical distance. Only persons with disabilities such as disability, physical condition, and mental health condition may need not wear a mask all the time as advised by a doctor.

Masks may also be necessary for economic recovery as they provide room for an economic boom. This can be achieved because it reduces the spread; thus, the government may focus its resources on job creation, bringing about growth. Protect yourself by wearing masks such as Surgical Mask and keep yourself, your family, and those around you safe.
